Rumbledog

 Rumbledog  - Making movies module

This weeks task was to create a scene that could be in Rumblefish (or in same style)  but concentrating particularly on the soundscape and design. I quickly jotted up a shot list/storyboard to get a basic idea of what we had to shoot in order to plan what sort of sounds we were looking for.

Originally we planned for Ryan's character (little Ryan) to be punching a full size punch bag but it was in storage and we didn't have the chance to get it! but luckily we had a speed ball that we decided would show the build up of a fight very well. We looked through sites like Freesound and epidemic for any sound effects similar to what we heard as we watched the fight scene over and over.

After collecting all the sounds I put them into named folders as I realised how annoying it was trying to find them.

I really like the framing of the opening shot. The Frame within a Frame shot in the mirror worked out as we planned it.

This sequence of shots with the lighter being thrown into the tin was our version of Rusty James potting a pool ball. We also make it blend into a Boxing bell signifying it was the beginning of a fight.

The sound of the Speed bag worked really well to build up the tension of a real fight. For what it is I think it worked out really well for a short clip.

WHAT I LEARNED

How important good Sound scaping is. It can totally make or brake a film.

Sound files have to labelled and organised. This was really helpful when it came to the editing.
