Second Story and Script Development - Premise, Characterisation, Genre and Structure

 This weeks task was to develop a new story and script to be made into a 

 5-12mins long film focussing on:

Premise, Characterisation, Genre, Structure

I developed an idea i had about a woman who inherits a restaurant.

Carmen, A 24 year old Instagram influencer wannabe inherits a failing restaurant. She starts out not caring and contemplates selling up to pursue her unrealistic fantasy. She gets to know the employees and regulars and decides to give it a go.

Carmen notices an employee being extorted ( Sandra 60). She stands up to the gang which results in her restaurant being destroyed. Carmen at this point wants to rebuild the restaurant to keep her new work family employed. She forms a plot to rob the gang with a Customer and Police officer (Ray 41) 

WHAT IF?

- She had a brother who was given everything that she hated and robbed him instead. Ending in her being caught but taking full responsibility. 

- She and Ray rob them successfully. Ray could arrest them. Carmen could escape.

- It goes wrong. One or both of them die 

- Maybe a staff member died in the pub being destroyed which makes her want to seek revenge.

All the conclusions to me seem a bit bland and need work.

Carmen when i pictured her i had Annie Murphy's character (Alexis Rose) from Schitts Creek in mind. Her type of attitude to life.

STRUCTURE

I realised this story would fit with the Western Dramatic Structure.

At the Crit it was suggested:

Strip it back! focus on a smaller part and develop that.

Bring the kitchen into it more and the relationships with chefs 

Paul said before about making it a pub which is what i had in mind as i have one i can shoot in.
