Two Short Film Breakdowns From 'Shorts Of The Week': Skipped/The Milkman

 Skipped

What worked for me:

I like how they set that tone of mundane life straight away using cold colours like greys and blues. The character is relatable from the situation he is put in and you feel happy for him when he realises he can get work done from doing something so simple as sneezing. But there's a price to pay for everything!  I think this is the underlining message. Or at least that's what I took from it. Maybe it could mean don't take life for granted too.

What could be improved:

To me the sound was a bit empty but I don't know if that was how it's supposed to be. Faster cuts when he's realised his new power. I'd like to see some more examples of the power personally. There's a lot of ways this could be done.

What could be taken away:

Maybe the odd clip? Like the second time he fills in the papers. It's already been established. Could be shorter and tighter as an edit I think.

What is achievable to do for me:

this could easily be done in a classroom or editing suite or even in the studio.

The Milkman

What worked for me:

I've liked the whole mockumentary style of film making since I was a child watching Alan Partridge and The Office etc so I instantly recognised the main character as a likeable genuine good guy but misunderstood and awkward too.

What could be improved:

The milkman is a bit flat and I didn't really believe his character. To me he's not really a good fit for that part. I could imagine someone like Joe Wilkinson or Steve Coogan playing a good milkman. The awkward feeling could of been taken up a notch and it could be a bit more exaggerated to make it funnier and all together more enjoyable to watch.

What could be taken away:

Some of the dialogue could be either taken away or changed.

What is achievable for me to do:

This is easily doable.
