Two Short Film Breakdowns: Me And You, Swiped (Seminar exercise)
Me and You
What worked for me:
The fact it was filmed from a birds eye view revealed a lot regarding body language and the characters emotions. I hadn't seen this done to tell a love story before and it works as a good short.
What could be improved:
You're not really given time to invest in to the characters which is why I think it could only work as a short or a montage in a feature film. Not necessarily an improvement but a different way of doing it.
What can be taken away:
Maybe it could be cut down even shorter. We get the point pretty much straight away so some clips could be cut that don't really project the story further or in a different way.
What is achievable for me to do in my position:
This is do-able using the studio. Mount the camera above in a fixed position. Dress a portion of the studio to resemble a bedroom.

Swiped
What worked for me:
I liked the whole VR approach to this short. It totally reflects how dismissive and shallow the human race is that we literally can just swipe to stop talking to someone if they do something we don't like or don't look how you want them to.
What could be improved:
It got the point across and I don't think it needs to be improved. I might have added a clip at the beginning of the woman putting on a VR headset to establish that straight away to see if it would work. Or possibly try filming it POV to see if it still holds the same meaning.
What can be taken away:
If I had to choose something it would probably be shortening the intro to just her putting on a VR headset and him being there already.
Is it achievable for me to do in my position:
Yes this would be pretty easy to do whilst socially distanced in the studio.
