Who Inspires Me Creatively, Artistically Etc

I have many different inspirations, here's a few I think are the most important.

My older brothers

                                                                              Jack

As you can see Jack loves The Shining as I do. I think the first time I saw it was when Jack was babysitting me and Ryan when we were kids. I must of been around 8. It terrified me obviously but I still loved it. The bathtub scene still freaks me out now and not many films can hold that sort of feeling for long. Jack also used to show us Kung Fu films which got us into other things like animation etc. He is also an artist that paints: film/tv stars portrayed like religious icons, canal boat art and Edward Hopper style landscapes plus many other styles.  Music was another thing he'd show us. I remember watching Aphex Twins - Come To Daddy and Windowlicker music videos as a kid and again I was amazed and terrified at the same time.

Kyle

Kyle is the eldest brother. He also used to babysit us as kids and show us films. He still sends us links of cool things to watch, listen to etc. He bought us a Street Fighter 2 animated film on VHS in the early 90's and we used to watch that constantly. He got me Dead Mans Shoes on DVD one year. I'd never heard of it but after watching it about 20 times it's now one of my favourite films. He's also an amazing artist.

Ryan (obviously)

We grew up together so ended up doing the same things which lead to us liking pretty much all the same sort of things so we inspire each other I think.  He is also a good artist. We must all of inherited my grandads genes as he was an artist skilled in many areas too.

Famous People

Stanley Kubrick

The more I watch/read about Stanley the more interested I am. I love his attention to detail and continuity. Makes his films seem very real. I'd like to make a film half as good as The Shining. Full Metal Jacket is another of my favourite films. Each of his shots are like a perfectly composed painting which is why I think I am glued to it every time I watch it.

Jackie Chan

Jackie Chan is probably one of the biggest influences as I was obsessed with his films growing up. I couldn't believe how he did most of the stunts. He introduced me to Samo Hung and Yuen Biao in Meals On Wheels and Project A which we used to watch religiously

I'm sure there's hundreds more that I can't think of so will come back to add to this.

Watching music videos growing up really helped spark my imagination. Here's a few I think I would say I'm inspired by the most:

I loved this song growing up. Especially the video. At the time people like Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliot, P Diddy (Puff Daddy then) all had this similar futuristic theme and it was a good way of telling a story through song.

Aphex Twin is another big influence. His videos tell a weird, but cool story. I used to watch these two videos all the time: Windowlicker and Come To Daddy

I hadn't watched the videos for years. Watching them now from a film student point of view I see they are constructed really well. They have humour, horror, dance routines and loads of other random things that shouldn't really work together but they do with his music over the top somehow?
